ABOUT me
I am a biological oceanographer fascinated by the way the physical environment impacts the growth of phytoplankton, the base of the marine food web. Espousing John Muir’s perspective that “when we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the Universe,” I approach the topics of oceanography and phytoplankton ecology from an interdisciplinary perspective using an array of tools, including field observations, remote sensing, laboratory experiments, and quantitative methods. I've pursued this line of research primarily in polar regions (Arctic, Antarctic), more recently moving towards lower latitudes including waters surrounding New Zealand and the North Pacific.

I am passionate about sharing my interest and love for nature through teaching, and seek out opportunities to bring and work with students in the field and in the classroom. I am also an avid photographer, mesmerized by the natural beauty that surrounds me.
